How I work

I've been doing this since 2010. A few things haven't changed: I tell people what I actually think, I try to make things as simple as they should be, and I'd rather you didn't need me than have you dependent on me.

Start where you are

I don't assume what you know, what you have, or what you want. I ask. Every client is different — different setup, different level of confidence, different goals. Good advice starts with understanding that.

—

Honest advice, always

If something doesn't need doing, I'll say so. If there's a better or cheaper option, I'll tell you about it. I'd rather give you advice you can act on than keep you coming back for things you don't need.

—

Long-term over one-off

I work best as a trusted, ongoing partner — someone you can call when something comes up, who already knows your setup. That said, one-off projects are absolutely fine. There's no pressure either way.

—

No jargon — ever

If I've explained something and you still don't understand it, that's on me. Plain English isn't a dumbed-down version of the truth — it's just good communication. I take that seriously.

What to expect

Starting out

Most things start with a conversation — by phone, email, or in person. I'll ask what you're trying to achieve, look at what you have, and give you an honest view of what's involved. No obligation, no meter running.

During a project

I keep you in the loop. If something takes longer than expected, or I find something that changes the picture, I'll tell you before I carry on — not after. I log time carefully and bill transparently.

Ongoing support

For clients who want more regular support — whether that's a monthly retainer, quarterly platform reviews, or just being on call — I offer structured arrangements that make sense for what you actually need.

Consultation

Over time, most clients find they want to ask bigger questions — about which tools to use, whether a platform makes sense, how to approach a new challenge. I'm happy to work at that level too. It often grows naturally from the practical work.

All rates are quoted upfront. I'll always give you a clear sense of what something is likely to cost before I start.
